Solve for One, Extend to Many

A single red dot in a usability test changed everything. For one participant, it was enough to stop the task entirely—a reminder that small moments can create big cognitive barriers. That insight sparked Inclusive Design for Cognition, an effort born in the Microsoft Garage Hackathon 2022 to design with, not just for, neurodivergent people.

Through fast loops and co‑design sessions, the team uncovered patterns of cognitive friction that many experience but few articulate. Those insights became toolkits and practices now influencing product teams across Microsoft, from evolving Azure Portal experiences to shaping inclusive design workshops and accessibility guidelines.

The mission is simple: remove barriers so everyone can show up fully. By solving for those who face the sharpest friction, we create calmer, clearer experiences for everyone.
