소개

Jorge Leandro is a Senior Research Software Engineer with the MSR Americas Engineering Redmond team at Microsoft Research, where he has been contributing since April 2022 to projects at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and interactive systems. Being passionate about AI-related fields, he holds an MBA in AI and Big Data, as well as Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees in Computer Science specializing in Computer Vision and Machine Learning. His background includes prior experience in Digital Image Processing, Computational Photography, and Artificial Intelligence within the mobile digital camera industry, bringing a strong foundation in applied research and innovation.

At MSR, Jorge previously worked on projects with the MSR-Emergence team, focusing on collaborative narrative design and generative AI for games. His contributions include developing tools like GENEVA, which generates and visualizes branching narratives using LLMs, and co-authoring research on Player-driven Storytelling and LLM-powered NPC collaboration in open-world environments.

Jorge also collaborated extensively on the Rushes project, a dataset designed to model human preferences of engagement in game narratives. Framed as a visual-novel game, Rushes collects user interactions with AI-generated branching narratives enriched with text, images, video, and audio, enabling research in personalized storytelling and RLHF. Jorge worked on the implementation of the branching narratives generation, an LLM-based similarity checker, media generation (image, audio, video, text) using generative models, RLHF model training, sequential recommender system training, and data analysis. Through this project, he became familiar with Azure OpenAI API, Azure Speech Services, Azure CosmosDB, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure ML, integrating cloud services into large-scale AI workflows.

Jorge has familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Next.js/React, Python, Pandas, Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, OpenCV, C/C++, Linux and prior R&D experience in the industry, along with a background in Statistical Machine Learning, Data Science, and Generative AI. He is a lifelong learner, enthusiastic about acquiring new knowledge and exploring emerging technologies. His work reflects a commitment to innovative research and a genuine enthusiasm for tackling new challenges—having had “a lot of fun” working on every project.
