Our commitments

We aim to develop technology that empowers sustainable progress worldwide and advances our goals of being carbon negative, water positive, and zero waste by 2030, and to protect ecosystems. These commitments extend to every part of our work, from how we operate our datacenters, to how we build products and source materials.

Carbon negative

By 2030, we’ll be carbon negative. By 2050, we’ll remove our historical emissions since our founding in 1975.

Our progress

When we announced our climate commitments in 2020, we also pledged to be accountable and transparent about our progress. Across carbon, water, waste, and ecosystems, we track our results, share learnings, and refine our approach.

Carbon-free renewable energy contracted

In 2024, we invested in additional renewable energy across 16 countries, and we expanded into nuclear energy with the signing of our first large-scale nuclear energy PPA with the Crane Clean Energy Center.

Water replenished

Since the program’s inception, we’ve contracted water projects expected to deliver more than 100 million cubic meters of replenishment volume over their lifetimes.

Waste diverted

In FY24, we increased our diversion of operational waste from landfills and incinerators across our owned datacenters and campuses.

Land permanently protected

We exceeded our land protection target by more than 30% and have contracted to protect an additional 17,439 acres in FY24.

Through our $1 billion Climate Innovation Fund, we invest in innovative technologies and solutions that accelerate progress toward a sustainable future. We focus on underfunded markets and areas with the greatest climate impact, helping ensure that the benefits of a more sustainable economy are broadly shared.
