Deploying and managing Microsoft 365

Strong foundation fuels the full power of Microsoft 365

Defining a digital culture is a major priority for every leader who strives to foster a modern workplace. Microsoft 365 was designed to support this kind of cultural shift, helping leaders empower everyone at their companies to unleash creativity and collaboration. At Microsoft, establishing our foundational infrastructure has sparked precisely this kind of digital culture shift. Implementing Microsoft 365 Enterprise has allowed us to deploy collaboration technology, like Microsoft Teams and Exchange Online, and to share sensitive data online across secure SharePoint intranet sites.

At the same time, intelligent security features and product integration helps streamline management needs and minimize the total cost of ownership across the IT lifecycle. Learn how Core Services Engineering and Operations planned and deployed a foundation to support the applications and services that unlock creativity and foster teamwork in a secure environment.

Networking

Cloud-based solutions that interface with client devices rely on dependable, secure, and performant network connections. That’s why powerful networking was a crucial aspect of our strategy in creating Microsoft Office 365 and Windows Intune, key features of Microsoft 365 Enterprise Management + Security. Our networking infrastructure emphasizes performance and integration, allowing us to host these cloud-based services and make them readily and reliably available for our customers all over the world.

When Core Services Engineering and Operations deployed Microsoft Office 365 company-wide, optimizing uninterrupted network capacity and performance was a priority. We took time to create and implement strategic networking plans, using industry-leading performance and migration approaches and adopting cloud infrastructure services to move our complex global environment to Office 365 smoothly. Here we share some of our key considerations in creating an efficient connection to Microsoft 365 Enterprise’s cloud services.

Identity

With Microsoft 365 Enterprise, a well-planned and well-executed identity infrastructure paves the way for stronger security. Securing access for authenticated individuals is just as important as protecting an enterprise-wide digital estate. At Microsoft, we’re putting in controls to ensure the proper levels of accessibility for sensitive data, reducing the risk of unwanted disclosures, and better protecting our global corporate data, resources, and documents.

Deploying identity-based protection with Microsoft 365 Enterprise has allowed Core Services Engineering and Operations to manage privileged identities, implementing just-in-time access for privileged roles and helping mitigate the risks that elevated access can introduce. And with a fully managed identity lifecycle, only authenticated users and devices can access appropriate productivity workloads and sensitive data resources. Learn how we planned, deployed, and managed our Microsoft 365 Enterprise identity infrastructure.

Windows 10 Enterprise

Windows 10 Enterprise unlocks a productive, creative, and collaborative experience with intelligent security capabilities designed to work systematically to better protect your enterprise. Core Services Engineering and Operations has embraced this new take on Windows as a service.

The agile approach allows us to streamline application compatibility testing, pilot deployments with early adopters, track progress through visual workflows, and make data-driven decisions using Windows Analytics. Read about how we deployed and configured Windows 10 Enterprise here at Microsoft to suit the specifics of our global work environment.

Office 365 ProPlus

Migrating Microsoft Office 365 to the cloud has allowed us to maintain all the best aspects of Office, while introducing new elements designed to enhance the experience. Office 365 ProPlus offers all the Office applications we rely on, while allowing us to update the cloud-based subscription service with new features and functionality on a regular basis.

At Microsoft, encouraging creativity and collaboration means meeting our people where they are, across devices and regardless of whether they’re in the office. In addition to frequent and regular feature updates rolled out directly to every device, the Office 365 ProPlus licensing model allows for installation on up to five devices. Here’s how we deployed Office 365 ProPlus to client devices. Modern device management

As work moves to the cloud, it’s more important than ever to be able to safely and easily manage multiple devices and apps across an organization. Core Services Engineering and Operations uses Microsoft Intune to manage iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows devices all while protecting access, resources, and data across our organization.

Microsoft 365 Enterprise also reduces the risk of data loss and corruption, helps us detect external security threats, and improves our reaction times through in-depth network activity monitoring and analysis. Our team monitors global standards in compliance and uses increased visibility and controls for industry-verified conformity. Learn more about how we implemented modern device management with Microsoft 365.

Information protection

Securing data for cloud-based workloads and scenarios is the final step in deploying Microsoft 365 Enterprise. Our approach to Microsoft data security meant defining how we transmit, store, and process the sensitive information that flows through our global organization. We determined policies and introduced technologies that have resulted in a whole new level of information protection.

At Microsoft, we’ve designed a strategy to protect the information in our modern workplace using tools like Azure Information Protection to classify and label data. Read about how we implement our data strategy and build out information protection using Microsoft 365 Enterprise.
