The workshop will be co-hosted by the Indian Institute of Science – Bangalore, the Society for Electronic Transactions & Security (SETS)- Chennai, Microsoft Worldwide Public Sector, and Microsoft Research India. This workshop will include presentations and discussion surveying worldwide use cases in public and commercial sectors. These sessions will focus on complex data sharing challenges across functions and layers of government with regard to security, standards, and compliance.

Keynote session as well as breakout sessions tailored specifically to address challenges encountered in:

  • State Governments
  • City Governments
  • National Government
  • Police Departments
  • Justice and Courts
  • National Security and Defense
  • Hospitals
  • Academic Institutions
  • Regulated industries (e.g. banks, pharmaceutical manufacturing, etc.)

Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, Dr. R. Chidambaram has agreed to participate and inaugurate the workshop. The workshop is by invitation and is expected to have participation from academics in the areas of security, data science, big data and analytics, decision makers from government and public sector, key managers from large system integrators and others.

The purpose of the talks will be to explain why multiple parties selectively share their data to perform agreed upon computations  with a  well-defined release procedure for  the results. An evolving list of talks is below. We expect  breakout sessions among small groups  based on topical interest  during the workshop and  later co-operative projects to vet and shape their relevance in Indian context.

    • Motivations for the collaborative sharing among parties who may not trust each other fully; types of collaboratives in academic, research and industrial settings

    • Why security in the cloud quite different from the on-premises case; components needed to support applications end to end; types of data security and key management issues.
  3. TDP Use Case Scenarios Part I
    •  A detailed view of Water and Energy districts in California, role of academic and NGO’s
  4.  Cloud ledgers and Blockchain inspired applications
    • Blockchains and ledgers are expected to revolutionize many sectors; their security and performance issues if simply moved to cloud; design of a  cloud ledger; their foundational role in TDP.
