Sourav Pal

About

Sourav Pal is a Senior Applied Scientist in the Excel Agent Science team at Microsoft. His research focuses on building reliable and efficient AI systems that enable reasoning, planning and iterative workflows in real-world applications.

Prior to joining Microsoft, Sourav completed his PhD in Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin–Madison (opens in new tab), where he worked on efficient and scalable machine learning methods for modeling structured and long-range dynamical systems. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from IIT Kharagpur (opens in new tab).

His broader interests lie in large-scale machine learning and structured reasoning systems, with an emphasis on integrating domain knowledge via the learning algorithm. He is particularly interested in developing principled and practical methods that translate advances in machine learning research into robust, trustworthy and impactful real-world systems.
