I’m a Principal Research Manager at Microsoft Research in Redmond. My research interests include systems, natural language processing, computer vision and robotic process automation.
I joined Microsoft Research after completing my Ph.D. (University of Helsinki, 2007) and a Post Doc (ETH Zurich, 2010) in Computer Science. Prior to that I got my Bachelor and Master degrees in Telecommunications Engineering at Politecnico di Milano. Much of my prior work revolved around mobile systems, from the very earliest smartphones to modern platforms. I have worked on many aspects of mobile systems, from energy efficiency, ad hoc networking, and middleware for distribution of application modules in the cloud to security and privacy. In recent years, I have explored how process automation, computer vision and natural language understanding can shape a new world of intelligent systems.
