About

I am currently Principal Applied Science Manager in the Core Relevance team within Information Platform Group.

My work spans a broad spectrum of projects in both research and productions, in the areas of web/image search, computer vision, machine learning, distributed data-parallel computing, information retrieval, and online-service security and intelligence. In MSR, I led (1) the WISE project on large-scale content-based Web Image Search which was shipped to Bing.com, and (2) the Optimus project: a framework for optimizing the execution plan of a distributed data-parallel computing job at runtime. From December 2012 to April 2013, I also worked as Technical Lead in Bing Core Ranking team while in MSR. Since then I have built and led a team of applied scientists working on search quality for Bing.com and large scale web/social data for various Microsoft key products.

I got my Ph.D. in CS from CMU, M.S. in Artificial Intelligence and Pattern Recognition from Chinese Academy of Sciences, and B.S. in EE from University of Science & Technology of China.
