TQFTs and tight contact structures on 3-manifolds
- Kevin Walker | UC Berkeley
Topological quantum field theory methodology provides interesting perspectives on the classification of tight contact structures on 3-manifolds. It turns out that there are interesting unsolved problems about tight contact structures on the simplest 3-manifolds (3-ball and solid torus). Many of these can be reduced to the questions about the combinatorics of properly embedded arcs in the disk (D2).
