Forough Poursabzi is a Principal Applied Scientist in the Office of Chief Scientific Officer at Microsoft. Her work lies at the intersection of society, people, and AI. Through an interdisciplinary lens and building on knowledge from fields of computer science, psychology, social sciences, and human-computer interaction, she works on identification and mitigations of risks in AI. More recently, Forough’s work has focused on understanding and identifying psychological risks of AI and translation of this research into evidence-based policy and design guidance. Her work informs responsible development of AI companions and chatbots, with an emphasis on safeguarding user wellbeing and promoting responsible human-AI interaction. Forough holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Colorado Boulder, where she specialized in human-centered machine learning, and a BE in Computer Engineering from the University of Tehran.
