The Return of Wolves to Washington

The presentation will focus primarily on the ecology and management of wolves in Washington State, with an emphasis on the North Cascades and the recent establishment of the Lookout Pack in the Methow Valley. Attendees will be treated to a variety of still photos, videos, and audio recordings chronicling the adventures of pack life over the last 3 field seasons. In addition we will touch briefly on the importance to wolves and other rare carnivores of conserving large landscapes and maintaining functional connectivity between such landscapes.

Speaker Details

Wildlife biologist Scott Fitkin is 21 year veteran employee of the Washington Dept of Fish and Wildlife. He spent the first 6 years of his WDFW working on the agency’s Grizzly Bear – Gray Wolf Investigations Project. Since then he has served as the District Wildlife Biologist in the Okanogan County Area. Over the 20+ years, Scott’s worked with a wide variety of wildlife species including a number of rare carnivores such as wolverine, grizzly bear, wolves, and lynx. He is currently the agency lead for the on-the-ground monitoring and management efforts for the Lookout Wolf Pack in the North Cascades. Scott resides in Winthrop, WA where he enjoys a variety of outdoor recreational pursuits when not on the job.
