Land Cover Mapping

Environmental scientists use satellite and aerial imagery to understand patterns of land use, in particular to understand the impacts of climate change and human population expansion on Earth’s natural resources. However, distilling imagery into actionable data – in the form of land cover maps – currently requires extensive manual annotation. This work uses computer vision to accelerate this process, allowing environmental scientists and geospatial analysts to spend less time drawing polygons and more time on conservation planning.
