There is an emerging trend to instrument the world with sensors that provide insight and allow us to improve the health and function of various systems. For example, cars now use many sensors for on-board diagnostics, shifting us from reactive crisis-driven repairs to proactive preventive maintenance. Similar trends pervade our homes, workplaces, and outdoor environments. We must apply this approach to the system we arguably care the most about – our bodies.
