Waqas Zamir is a Senior Research Scientist at Microsoft’s AI for Good Lab, where he works to make AI more inclusive and globally representative. His research spans computer vision, natural language processing, and multimodal generative AI. He is currently focused on developing language technologies that expand AI access for digitally marginalized communities that speak low-resource languages.

Before joining Microsoft, Waqas was at the Inception Institute of Artificial Intelligence, where he worked across both fundamental research and applied AI. His work has been published in top venues such as CVPR, ECCV, and NeurIPS, and has received over 17,000 citations (as of October 2025). He is in Stanford’s list (opens in new tab) of the world’s top 2% scientists, ranking in the top 0.3% within the field of AI.
