Designing and Building Multi-Device Interfaces

This talk will focus on cross-device interaction, including techniques for integrating multiple devices in knowledge work, with a focus on interaction techniques as realized in working systems. Dr. Wigdor’s team is well known for a long line of excellent work in this area, in systems such as Conductor and Panelrama, and more recently in HoloDoc and the Simplified Model of Attention and Capture for multi-device environments, which raise interesting issues related to the sociology (proxemics) of how people use devices to mediate shared use of physical space. He also has led studies that reveal insightful patterns of how users’ digital activities flow across multiple devices, and some of the challenges that raises for modern information work.
