Group Forming and Grassroots Organizing Technology

The internet enables radically more effective means of bottom up grassroots organizing. The Dean Campaign and MoveOn are early examples of what is possible when citizens are empowered through web-technology to seize responsibility and self-organize around common goals. In this session we will examine what the needs of these grassroots groups are and what the future of the technology to support them will be.

Speaker Details

Zack kicked off the “DeanSpace” project in 2003 during his summer break from the University of Illinois. He then took a job at the Howard Dean presidential campaign head-quarters to work as a web-developer and technical volunteer coordinator. He was responsible for servicing the web-technology needs of the state campaign offices, constituency groups, and grassroots web developers. He is now the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the CivicSpace Foundation (civicspacelabs.org).
