Peter Krogstrup is professor in quantum material physics at the Niels Bohr Institute, Copenhagen and Director of the Microsoft Quantum Materials Lab in Lyngby, Copenhagen. With a background as a musician, it was not expected that Peter, who in a relatively late age began his study in Physics in 2004, ended up leading a quantum research group at the new Microsoft laboratory which opened in September 2018.
In 2013 he defended his Ph.D. thesis: “Dynamical Theory and Experiments on GaAs Nanowire Growth for Photovoltaic Applications” from faculty of Science Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen Denmark. The following years, while working as an assistant professor at the Center for Quantum Devices, at the Niels Bohr Institute, he was dragged more and more into this world of quantum physics. His great interest in synthesis of crystalline materials which became a stepping stone for his collaboration with Microsoft Quantum, which began in 2015 under Professor Charles M. Marcus directions. Peter’s innovative approach to the development of quantum materials let to an offer to become a Microsoft Principal Researcher in January 2017 followed by the construction of a new state-of-the-art lab quantum materials laboratory at the Microsoft development Center in Lyngby.
