Michael is a postdoctoral researcher in the Fairness, Accountability, Transparency, and Ethics (FATE) group at MSR-NYC. His research focuses on human-centered approaches to fairness and equity issues in AI, including how AI practitioners and other stakeholders operationalize principles for responsible AI, the processes and tools that might support them in those efforts, and the social and organizational dynamics that impact those processes. He is particularly interested in applications of FATE issues in educational AI. He completed his Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon University.
